A Cry for Help: How to Help A Friend Who Is Depressed or Suicidal

A Cry for Help: How to Help A Friend Who Is Depressed or Suicidalstar rating 5Kathy BystromDecember 15, 2009I work in community health, specializing in adolescent mental health. I have used this video as a training tool for our peer lifeline program for years. I think it should be part of the health class curriculum so it can be shown to every single student. It not only equips students with the tools they need to help peers who are struggling, its "biological approach" opens the door to honest discussion which helps to reduce the stigma so often associated with mental illness. No question it has saved lives.
A Cry for Help: How to Help A Friend Who Is Depressed or Suicidalstar rating 5School CounselorSeptember 9, 2009I have shown "A Cry for Help" to some 3000 7th and 8th grade students over the course of the last four years. On every occasion some student has come forward to ask for help for themselves or some one else. I am convinced that this video has saved lives. The content is clear, concise and timeless. The presentation is not condescending nor is it sensationalized. It is, quite simply, what every teenager needs to see and hear about a topic too few are willing to confront. I highly recommend this video as a part of any counseling curriculum. John G. Chick School Counselor Lowndes Middle School Valdosta, Georgia
