Graduale Romanumstar rating 5Paul HaverstockMay 26, 2009This is the standard book of the chants for Sunday Masses (Ordinary form) and Feast Days. It's print is very clear, the pages are a bit thicker than the previous edition, which makes this version feel sturdier and less fragile. Too bad they didn't include the prayers and responses in this edition, as they did in the "Gregorian Missal" (which is basically the same as this book, but with English headings and translations alongside the Latin). The notation for some of the chants is open to alternate interpretations. The director of my schola (at St. Agnes in St. Paul, Minnesota) has made some revisions (e.g. removing or adding a hold). This should not be a concern for most scholas. "An authentic updating of sacred music can take place only in the lineage of the great tradition of the past, of Gregorian chant and sacred polyphony." -Pope Benedict XVI [Speaking in the Sistine Chapel following a tribute concert to Dominico Bartolucci, June 24, 2006.]
