Medeco Maxum Deadbolt - High Security Single cylinder modelstar rating 5Herb G.August 8, 2010I live in Manhattan. When my wife and i moved into our current apartment we had the superintendent change our locks. Almost to the day, two months later we were burglarized. We reported the crime to the police and again asked the superintendent to change our locks. But this time on the police offers advice we used Medeco locks. Again we asked the superintendent to change our locks and we told him to use only Medco locks. This time it took about four months but we were burglarized again. This was strange because we thought that Medeco locks were special. That they couldn't be bypassed easily. There was no damage to the door or to the locks. We thought that there was a good possibility that the lock was opened with a key! So, we again changed the locks to brand new Medecos but this time I bought the locks and I installed them. No one besides my wife and I have the keys. It was easier than I thought it would be and had seen it done before (haha). Here we are two years later with no trouble whatsoever. Kind of makes you wonder. Anyway, the point is no matter how good the lock is if the key gets out all bets are off and you have compromised security. Be very careful who you give the key to and where the lock came from.
