Steam locomotive details and weatheringstar rating 5Jim RobertsAugust 23, 2011I very much enjoyed this collection of articles on Steam Locomotive details and superdetailing and weathering. I have many of the Bluebook articles, however, I also found this very nice to have them all together. I also particularly like that they are in digital format. I would recommend this collection to anyone with an interest in modeling steam locmotives.
Steam locomotive details and weatheringstar rating 5David HearnMarch 13, 2011Though I may have many of the Bluebook article in old MR issues, it is great to have them all collected in this PDF format. THey are basic to anyone who wishes to understand steam locomotive appliances. The weathering article is icing on the cake, but there could be more discussion of the appropriate degree of weathering, depending on era, type of engine assignment, and time since shop servicing.
Steam locomotive details and weatheringstar rating 3J SproatJune 20, 2010Of the 36, or so, pages, only seven pages are dedicated to weathering. To me, the title is misleading due to that deficiency. Lots of details on steam locomotives for the die-hard detailer. Way too much money for what you get--especially for someone interested in just weathering.

Steam locomotive details and weatheringstar rating 4B CollinsFebruary 13, 2010The section on prototype steam locos from 1950's articles is basically the same as that in their Steam Loco Encylopedia. It does a very good job describing all the parts of a steam loco and is worth the money for the download if you don't have the Encylopedia or original articles. Even then it is in a handier 8 1/2x11 format than the Encylopedia.
